At KS4 we offer the Cambridge Nationals in Creative iMedia qualification. This course provides learners with a wide range of digital skills and encourages independence, creativity and awareness of the digital media sector. It equips learners with a range of creative skills and provides opportunities to develop transferable skills such as research, planning, working with others and communicating creative concepts effectively.

KS4 Assessment

The Cambridge Nationals in Creative iMedia (2022) is made up of 3 units, each unit has a different weighting towards their final mark. 60% of the qualification is coursework based, which is set and marked by the classroom teacher. Students can expect to achieve a Level 2 qualification at Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Course Content

Over the 2 years, students will study 3 units;

R093 (Creative iMedia in the Media Industry): R093 focuses on the pre-production skills needed in order to undertake any project, looking at the purpose and content needed for pre-production, that create impact and engaging content. Students will also consider any legal and ethical decisions that need to be made in the planning process. The exam is 1hr 30 minutes and it is set and marked externally by OCR.

R094 (Visual Identity and Digital Graphics): Identity is a vital component of any business, product or brand. A visual identity communicates values and core principles to the consumer, user or customer. In this unit students will learn how to develop visual identities for clients. They will also learn to apply the concepts of graphic design to create original digital graphics which incorporate in their visual identity to engage a target audience.

R097 (Interactive Digital Media): Interactive digital media products are found across the media industry, in games, websites and apps, learning and knowledge based systems, simulations and in commerce. In this unit students will learn to design and create interactive digital media products for chosen platforms. They will learn to select, edit and repurpose multimedia content of different kinds and create the structure and interactive elements necessary for an effective user experience.

Marketing Executive

As a marketing executive, you would promote your employer’s or your client’s products, services or ideas. If you love using your communication skills in a creative way, this could be the ideal job for you.


Journalist

As a journalist you would research and present news stories for print, television, radio and the internet. If you have an enquiring mind, excellent communication skills and enjoy working with people this job could be for you.


Film Director

Directors have overall responsibility for the way films and television programmes are made.  As a director, you would use your creativity, organisational skills and technical knowledge to manage the whole production process.


Graphic Designer

In this role you will work alongside your clients, creating websites and other promotional materials for them.  This could include graphics for packaging, magazines, catalogues and flyers, etc.  More career ideas: Animator, Broadcast Engineer, Screenwriter, Photographer, Film Maker, Set Designer, Media Researcher, Audio-Visual Technician, Studio Sound, Engineering, Editor, Advertising Executive.


Games Designer

Game Designers devise what a game consists of and how it plays. They plan and define all the elements of a game: its setting; structure; rules; story flow; characters; the objects, props, vehicles, and devices available to the characters; interface design; and modes of play.
