PSHE

“Safety and happiness can only come from individuals, classes and nations being honest and kind and fair to each other.”

C. S. Lewis

What is PSHE?

In PSHE, students learn about the moral principles that govern a person's behaviour.

At Unity City Academy, we wholeheartedly believe in developing the whole child. Therefore, our PSHE syllabus is planned around government guidelines to ensure that when students leave our Academy, they are ready for the real world.

Key Stage 3

Students follow four main strands throughout the year: Health and Wellbeing, the Wider World, SRE and Our local area. Within these areas, students will focus on things, such as: diet, healthy choices, keeping safe and what makes us who we are.

Lessons take the form of topical discussion, research projects and personal journeys to realise the importance of the topics covered in actual life.

Key Stage 4

Students follow four main strands throughout the year: Health and Wellbeing, the Wider World, Our local area and SRE. Students will continue to develop their knowledge of these areas and be ready to move into future chapters of their lives with an understanding of how the world works and how to be safe.

Lessons focus on key themes to prepare students to be participants in the real world. These include: cyberbullying, radicalisation, body image, peer pressure, careers, helping someone else, SRE, revision skills, drugs, alcohol and the law. This allows students the basic knowledge around key aspects and allows them to build their character by linking the topics to the key characteristics.

By developing this skillset, students will learn to become a better person within their community. Our students will not just be excited to go on with life after school, but to also be prepared.
