Module 2

What is Career-Development?

It's the process of self-exploration and awareness, continual acquisition of knowledge about the ever-changing world of work, and decision-making.

Students are inundated with strong messages from parents, media, and other sources that often portray an incorrect (or at best, incomplete) picture of the career development process.

Most students will undergo several career changes throughout their lives, and therefore it is essential that they are empowered and equipped with the understanding of how to make career decisions … not just help them “plug in” to a specific job/field where they’ll stay for life (this scenario is extremely uncommon nowadays).

Keep Multiple Options Open

Talk about all of the possibilities - even the ones that seem impossible.

Take Action and Reflect

Think about where your skills/knowledge/abilities will take you and what you will need in the future.

Define What Success Means To You

Keep your definition current - focus on where you are now and how this will help you get to where you want to be.
