Modern Studies helps to develop your knowledge and understanding of social, political and economic issues. You will learn about the political and social issues that affect us in Scotland, the UK and internationally. You will also find out some of the ways societies deal with conflict, and learn about human rights and responsibilities. The course has three areas of study:
Democracy in Scotland the United Kingdom, Social Issues in the United Kingdom and International Issues
The course assessment has two components totalling 100 marks:
Component 1: question paper – worth 80 marks
Component 2: assignment – worth 20 marks.
For the assignment component, you will be asked to choose a contemporary issue topic to research and produce evidence to support your findings.
S4 Entry
Learners should have achieved 4th Level CfE Modern Studies in S3.
S5/S6 Entry:
Learners should have passed National 4 Modern Studies or be able to demonstrate ability to work at National 5 Level in similar subjects.
