SFA Referee Development Award
The refereeing course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the Laws of the game. It also includes learning about formal controls, misconduct, match reports and fitness standards for referees. You will also have to referee a football match under guidance and will throughout the year be refereeing miniature games.
The course will be predominantly classroom based where the Laws of the game will be covered through watching various football clips. In practical sessions you will complete the physical fitness tests that referees are required to complete alongside refereeing games and correct signalling and positioning.
There are 2 units that you must complete to pass the qualification:
Laws of the game
Practical Refereeing
Upon completion of the qualification this will then allow you to register to become a qualified referee.
Laws of the game:
You complete a multiple choice online test you must pass with over 80%.
There will also be a logbook and checklist that will be completed throughout the year
Practical Refereeing:
You are required to complete a misconduct report
Referee a game under guidance (40 minute match)
All of the assessment criteria above are graded on pass/fail basis.
S5 or S6 Entry:
Pupils who have completed National PE at level 5 or above
Pupils may be considered if they have relevant experience and interest in football (must see Head of PE for permission)
This award will enable you to register and work as a qualified Football Referee
