You will study the features of the earth – such as mountains, rivers and seas – and how they were formed. You will learn how to use a range of equipment and techniques such as map reading, data collection, ICT and problem-solving. You will find out about cultures and backgrounds of people from all over the world. There will be opportunities for practical activities, including fieldwork. The course has three areas of study:
Physical Environments, Human Environments, Global Issues
The course assessment has two components totalling 100 marks:
Component 1: question paper – worth 80 marks (consists of 3 sections; Section 1 worth 30 marks, Section 2 worth 30 marks and Section 3 worth 20 marks)
Component 2: assignment – worth 20 marks.
For the assignment component, you will be asked to research a geographical issue and produce a report on your findings.
S4 Entry:
Learners should have achieved 4th Level CfE History in S3.
S5/S6 Entry:
Learners should have passed National 4 History or be able to demonstrate ability to work at National 5 Level in similar subjects.
A/B Pass:
C or Below:
Learners may be suited to other National 5 courses on offer in the Social Subjects faculty or Personal Development (SCQF Level 6)
