The group award develops the skills required to work in science-based industries. Learners will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in performing experimental procedures, processing, analysing and evaluating the results obtained. The fundamental chemistry unit covers atomic structure, periodic table, acids/alkalis, organic chemistry and chemical equations and calculations.
The laboratory safety unit covers common hazards and safety procedures. Mathematics for Science develops basic skills in calculation, algebra, graph reading and drawing.
Units Covered
Laboratory Safety (SCQF Level 5). Mathematics for Science 2 (SCQF Level 5), Fundamental Chemistry: An Introduction (SCQF Level 6), Experimental Procedures: Science (SCQF Level 6)
This course is assessed on an ongoing basis through coursework and assignments.
S5 or S6 Entry
Pupils should have achieved passes in any of the following subjects: National 5 Biology, National 5 Chemistry, National 5 Physics, NPA Applied Sciences
In addition to the above some mathematics units at SCQF level 4 or above are required.
