National Qualifications - Skills for Work

Skills for Work courses focus on generic employability skills needed for success in the workplace. The courses offer learners opportunities to learn these skills through a variety of practical experiences that are linked to vocational areas.

Skills for Work courses help young people to develop their self-confidence. They also aim to provide a very positive learning experience. A chance to work on practical skills that relate to the world of work provides real benefits to learners.

Skills for work courses are typically assessed through ongoing gathering of evidence. These course do not have formal SQA exams. You are assessed against the practical skills required to be successful in the course.

• University Pathway - This course should be considered as an 'extra' if you would like to move onto university after school. Be aware that there is no Level 6 course to progress onto and that moving on to another Higher course in a similar area is unlikely to be possible.

• College Pathway - This course could be good option for you, depending on the level of course you are applying to and the other subjects you study.

• Apprenticeship/Employment Pathway - Skills for Work courses is a great choice for you. It will allow you to develop practical skills including employability skills. The learning will be very relevant for you, especially if you intend to move into a similar industry when you leave school.
