You will study the features of the earth – such as mountains, rivers and seas – and how they were formed. You will learn how to use a range of equipment and techniques such as map reading, data collection, ICT and problem-solving. You will find out about cultures and backgrounds of people from all over the world. There will be opportunities for practical activities, including fieldwork. The course has three areas of study:
Physical Environments, Human Environments, Global Issues
The course assessment has three components totalling 190 marks:
Component 1: question paper 1 (Physical and human environments) – worth 100 marks
Component 2: question paper 2 (Global issues and geographical skills) worth 60 marks
Component 3: assignment – worth 30 marks.
S4 Entry:
Learners should have achieved 4th Level CfE Geography in S3.
S5/S6 Entry:
Learners should have passed National 4 Geography or be able to demonstrate ability to work at National 5 Level in similar subjects.
Advanced Higher Geography is not currently being offered in St Machar Academy or as part of City Campus.
Learners may be suited to studying other Higher courses on offer in the Social Subjects Faculty.
