Finding your zoned school:
Most children go to their Zoned School. You have the right to apply for a place at any school in Aberdeen City, but if you do not apply for your Zoned School we can't guarantee you a place there. We advise that you apply for both your Zoned School and your preferred school. You can apply to as many schools as you wish, and up to ten on the same form.
All our applications are online. https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/education-and-childcare/apply-school-place
We are committed to the policy of inclusion to ensure that children and young people in need of additional support receive timely and effective interventions. We strive to ensure that children and young people access the education services and facilities they need to fully participate in the life of their school and their community, in order to achieve their full potential. We aim to have a flexible continuum of provision to provide the most appropriate support to the individual child or young person. Wherever possible, children and young people should have the opportunity to be educated in their local community.
All primary and secondary schools provide support for children and young people with additional support needs. We also maintain a range of support services such as Educational Psychology, Sensory Support, English as an Additional Language and Autism Outreach. The majority of pupils will have their needs met in a mainstream school with access to specialist advice and support when appropriate. Please discuss with your school if you have any queries regarding how needs are met and how these are planned.
A very small number of children may require access to a more specialised provision for a period of time or access to a placement within our specialist provisions. In Aberdeen City these include Aberdeen School for the Deaf, Orchard Brae School, for learners with profound, multiple and complex needs; Mile End ASN Provision (Primary) and Bucksburn Academy ASN Wing (Secondary) for learners with a range of significant complex additional Support Needs,; and Enhanced provisions at Glashieburn School and Kaimhill School (primary) and Bridge of Don Academy and Cults Academy (secondary) for learners with complex additional support needs for whom a specialist level of support is required.
The Child’s Planning Support request for assistance process is used to identify learners for whom this approach may be of benefit. The Child's Plan is used by the Team Around the Child to outline the nature of the child's strengths, needs and the multi-agency interventions employed to meet them. The multi-agency forum reviews the information provided by the Team Around the Child to endorse planning and intervention and/or to offer further support, which could include enhanced provision.
The Child’s Planning Support process does not alter a parent's right to apply for a school of their choosing at any time by making a placing request. Placing requests are handled in accordance with relevant legislation and policy. Enhanced Provision (parents).docx - Google Drive
