Educational support for children and young people who are open to the Fit Like Service is provided by the Aberdeen City Council Additional Support Needs & Outreach Wellbeing Team.
The team is made up of Wellbeing Family Workers, Pupil Support Assistants and Teachers. All team members engage with children, young people and families in an approached based on relational, trauma informed practice.
Learners supported by the team remain with their school and the overall responsibility for their education planning remains with the school. When support is requested there is a process of exploration with the learner, family and school to identify which specific part of their plan the Wellbeing Team will focus on.
Wellbeing Education support is designed to meet the individual needs of the learner and may consist of bespoke learning input at different locations, learning in the community and countryside, mentoring/emotional support as well as many other tailored approaches.
Through bespoke projects and funding Aberdeen City Council Creative Learning team have offered support to young people who work access help via the Fit Like Family Wellbeing Service.
The Northeast Culture Collective project aimed to engage children, young people, and families in creative activities through both individual and group settings. It encouraged family participation in creative endeavours, learning through drop-ins and short series of activities. Participants were actively involved in meaningful conversations, which led to the co-development of further creative projects reflecting their voices.
The project created a welcoming environment where families and young people felt comfortable, supported, and not judged. Partners were supported in developing the Fit Like Hubs through increased group work, drop-ins, and co-creation with families to better understand and meet their needs. This co-designed approach aimed to build self-confidence and resilience in young people and their families, fostering new support structures within their communities.
The partner organisation for this project was Creative Learning Fit Like Hubs.
