Our Young Persons (YP) team works with young people to help them stay safe from the risks of using substances like alcohol and vapes. We also support those affected by someone else's drug or alcohol use. Our help is tailored to each person's needs and can include:
Education about substances: Learning about the effects and risks.
Harm reduction: Tips on how to reduce the risks if they are using substances.
Understanding peer relationships: How friends can influence their choices.
Advice for parents: Information and support for families.
Safety planning: Making plans to stay safe.
Initial Meeting: We start with a session to understand the young person's needs and see if they need immediate help.
Ongoing Support: They are then matched with a team member or directed to other services that can help. This support continues as long as needed.
Transition to Adult Services: If they turn 18 and still need help, we assist them in moving to adult services.
Flexible Locations: We can meet them at school, at home, or in a community place where they feel comfortable.
We also offer group sessions to raise awareness about substance use. These are often requested by schools and include:
Information Sessions: Teaching young people how to stay safe if they or their friends use substances.
Role Plays: Practicing how to handle situations like being offered a substance or helping a friend who feels unwell.
