A six-part programme for parents/carers who would like to help their children regulate their emotions and behaviour, and increase their sense of connection with their children. It is an early intervention programme that is delivered regularly in person by Fit Like Hub staff.
On this page you will find a summary and snapshot of each session to help you consider if this group is right for you. Or you might find these summarised sessions helpful to you just to read over and reflect on in your own time.
During the in-person sessions, we allow lots of time for discussion around the topics and past participants have shared that meeting other parents to share experiences and ideas is what they find most helpful so we would love to have you joins us if this is something you would find helpful.
Session 1 – Introduction -
In session 1 we offer some information about making changes; how this can feel, what can be the challenges. During the in-person group we will also spend some time getting to know each other and reflecting on any specific things you hope to get out of the course. There is also a chance to reflect on your personal experiences of being parented and the impact of this on your own parenting style.
Session 2 – Communication -
Session 2 takes a look at communication. This covers how we speak to ourselves and the impact this has on our mindset, different forms of communication, communication as the foundation for relationship and tips on communicating with your children.
Session 3 – Emotions -
In session 3 we cover emotions. This will explore emotional literacy, the link between emotions, thoughts and behaviour and how to support your own and your child’s emotional regulation.
Session 4 – Understanding Behaviour -
Session 4 is ‘part 1’ on behaviour. We consider what influences behaviour and also what our expectations and values are around different behaviours.
Session 5 – Responding to Behaviour -
‘Part 2’ on behaviour, takes a look at what practical strategies we can put in place to support healthy and positive behaviour. This covers both pro-active and responsive approaches.
Session 6 – Conflict.
In the final session we look more closely at conflict; preventing, problem solving, managing escalation and risk. During the in-person group we also spend some time reviewing our goals considering any next steps of support if needed.
I felt the group covered a lot of what we go through as a family. And how to handle certain situations whether its meltdowns, sleeping, mood swings, hitting. I feel I have learned so much coming to the group and will try what I have learned and hope that it works for my son and family. Thank you so much
Thank you for all the valuable information I have learned. It was very interesting to learn different strategies & meet others like me
