Credential Candidates

Accommodations

If accommodation for disability is needed, the candidate is responsible for requesting academic accommodations from the Educator Support and Effectiveness Program Director and for providing documentation of disability. VCOE strives to provide its customers with assistance to meet reasonable requests.

Attendance

Candidates must attend and complete all required face-to-face classes and online courses. Attendance is monitored and recorded for credential completion requirements and university professional development units.

Coursework

Each ESE Credential Program has its own coursework requirements. Candidates must pay close attention to coursework instructions and due dates. See "Timely Progress" in the Policies and Procedures section of this Handbook.

Release Time

Release time may be available for candidates to engage in program-related activities. Each candidate is responsible for checking with their District Coordinator for specific district guidelines regarding release time procedures. Release time is not to be used for writing or completing coursework, Individualized Learning Plans, Administrator Induction Plans, or portfolios. Release time may also be available for a Teacher Induction candidate’s mentor, Administrator Induction candidate's coach, assigned observer, or field-based supervisor to conduct informal and formal observations.

Technology Requirements

Credential Program candidates are responsible for familiarizing themselves with technology requirements of their programs and providing their own electronic devices and software.

Teacher Exam Preparation

Candidates are required to ensure that they have completed all necessary exams for credentialing purposes. Educator Support and Effectiveness provides a variety of test preparation tutorials. See the ESE website for more information.
