Benefits of the LAD Credential
- Authorizes teaching of all academic subjects to students with specific special needs who have identified communication and academic language deficiencies
- Prepares the educator to enhance skills of students with special needs and provide highly needed support for their academic and social success
- Includes an authorization for Autism Spectrum Disorder, resource specialist, and teaching English learner students with special needs
- Candidate holds a Preliminary/Level 1 or Clear/Level 2 Education Specialist Credential.
- Candidate has access to one student with IEP goals in the areas of language/communication, academics, and behavior/social/pragmatics.
- A candidate with an ECSE Credential must provide evidence of having passed the RICA and Multiple Subjects exams.
Only holders of special education teaching credentials may earn the LAD Credential.
LAD Credential candidates are required to:
- register in the online Learning Management System;
- supply their own electronic devices with Internet and email access;
- purchase required textbooks;
- complete observations and interviews of students;
- video record classroom teaching;
- make timely progress toward completing program requirements;
- demonstrate academic and professional integrity.
The VCOE LAD course consists of three online modules totaling 135 hours of instruction, practica, fieldwork, and observations. Upon satisfactory completion of all program requirements, candidates will be recommended for the LAD Credential. The program can be completed in one school year.
