The back channel is a conversation that goes on alongside the primary activity, presentation or discussion. Back channels allow students of all levels a chance to ask questions. For those students (whether they are K-5, 6-12 or adult learners) who are not comfortable asking questions, you can create a back channel where they can post questions. You can also ask that all questions be posted there so that everyone can have access to the materials at a later time. Participants learn from each other, share insights, increase participation and deepen learning. The tools listed for back channels can also be used in other areas such as formative assessments, reflection or feedback/feedforward.
