Formative Assessments

The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning in order to provide ongoing feedback. Formative assessments help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work. It allows teachers to see where students are struggling and address problems quickly.

Formative assessments are generally low (or no) stakes. Examples of formative assessments could include:

    • drawing a concept map to represent understanding

    • submit an exit ticket identifying the main points learned that day

    • submitting a longer work for early feedback
