Advanced Placement Statistics

1462 Advanced Placement Statistics

Grade 11 & 12: 1 Credit

Guideline: Successful completion of Algebra II

How can we collect, analyze and draw conclusions from data?

Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes:

1. Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns

2. Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study

3. Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation

4. Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses

The AP Statistics course is an excellent option for any secondary school student who has successfully completed Algebra II and who possesses sufficient mathematical maturity and quantitative reasoning ability. Students who wish to leave open the option of taking calculus in college should include precalculus in their high school program and perhaps take AP Statistics concurrently with precalculus.
