Information Evaluation at SMHS

In the last election cycle, the issue of “fake news “ became news, but librarians have been talking about source evaluation for a long time. Today Mrs Ryder taught a lesson to 11th graders to help them understand truth from fiction when it comes to information sources, news and otherwise. We specifically focused on current events in the news, but students can use these same techniques to evaluate any information source they might read. Here, students are looking at entertaining news articles online and determining if they are real, fake, or a combination. All of the links we used are available at https://sites.google.com/a/rsu73.com/rsu-73-libraries/smhs/smhs-research-links/news and the form students are filling out can be found at http://www.livebinders.com/media/get/MTEyNDE2NTU= Please feel free to use them with your own students.
