Teen Trendsetters is a national reading mentor program that is managed by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Freeport received a grant to pilot the program so 14 FHS students were paired with 14 Morse Street School students 1st and 2nd graders all year long. The goal of the program is to train high school students to be mentors to struggling readers. Students met every week using a science-based reading curriculum. Throughout the 24 week program, mentees were gifted reading books. The program offers the teens an opportunity to give back to their community. Junior Isaac Salisbury received a Teen Trendsetter Excellence Award. See link: http://mainedoenews.net/2015/04/01/governor-lepage-and-barbara-bush-foundation-for-family-literacy-honor-teen-mentors/
