Freeport High School Advanced Art students did a service project with Habitat for Humanity and a Somali family that will be moving into one of the Habitat homes in Freeport in late spring. Hana Tallan, the Somali woman and her daughter came in and spoke with student artists about Somalia. Students then did research and created 2D and 3D pieces. The foreman of the Habitat Freeport project came and spoke to students about Habitat for Humanity. This project is intended to create awareness about Habitat for Humanity and to honor the family's home land. Their art was showcased in Portland's FirstFriday Art Walk on April 6 at The Via Agency, and was accompanied by Freeport High School jazz band students. The art is currently on display at FHS in the Edwards Gallery.
