Part A: Instructions:
This week your task is to write about anything you like!
You could write about a recount about something you have experienced recently or you could write a narrative about something. It could be a mystery, comedy, action or any other genre you like. You can write about anything you like.
Some points to remember are:
1. Plan your writing first.
2. Make sure you are PROUD of your writing.
3. Make sure you edit your writing as you go.
4. Other people will be reading your writing so make sure you think about the audience you are writing for before starting.
5. File and turn your writing in

Similes
Walt: engage our readers with interesting new similies
Part A: Instructions:
A similie is a comparison of two things using the words like or as
e.g. her hands were as cold as ice
However, so similes have been used way too much making them boring to read. We're going to fix that because we're not into boring writing
1. Copy the presentation to your right
2. For each of the boring similes think about an interesting alternative that will bring a simile to life again.
e.g as cold as ice = as cold as a snowman's bottom
3. Compare your similes with a friend
4. Pretty up the presentation and post it on your blog with a paragraph explaining it.

Time to use similes! Watch the following movie and then write a narrative using your similes and descriptive language to tell the story again.

By creating a plan using the T.R.E.E structure we can write a recount that has all the necessary parts to inform a reader of a past event.

Fill in the table with the necessary information about the iluminate performance that we watched on Tuesday. Use this table to help you write your recount.

Read the article about an injured biker and see if he author has included all the right parts of a recount.

Instructions:
In the last week of Term 1 the Year 8s had a fantastic time being away at camp and the Year 7s had an amazing time doing fun activities at school.
As a way of sharing our experiences with one another we are going to create an article informing others about what we got up to in that last week. These articles will be collected and presented in a way similar to a newspaper.
You will plan your writing with your teacher in class

This week we will be writing a blog post about our aspiration speakers from Monday morning.

2. Take your time to think about the answers to your questions. These will help you to write your paragraphs.
Painting a picture with words

Instructions:
This week we will be writing a short passage describing a picture. This will be presented to the class.
1. Choose a picture from the selection Miss Berry has supplied.
2. Open up a new presentation. Title it (your name) Painting a picture.
3. Link it to the blog log.
4. Write a passage that describes your picture. Use both simple and compound sentences. Pretend that you are describing your picture to someone who is blind.
5. These will be presented to the class. They will have a pencil and paper and be drawing what you are describing.

Simple and Compound Sentences

Instructions:
This week we are going to learn the difference between simple and compound sentences
1. Copy the presentation to the right. Take your time to work through each slide, identifying the traits of a simple sentence and a compound sentence.
2. Open up a new document. Using the picture below as a prompt, write a narrative. Use a mixture of simple and compound sentences. Use T.O.P.S to plan your writing first.

Editing our writing

Instructions:
This week we are going to learn how to edit our writing by adding detail and making sure our sentences make sense.
Have a practise at editing a piece of writing that Miss Berry has written. Make sure you fix her punctuation and grammar mistakes as well as adding extra descriptive writing.
Open your writing that you started last week about David Guetta's Titanium video. Go through and edit it by adding in detail. Make any changes you make red.
Narrative Writing - Descriptive writing

Instructions:
This week we are going to use descriptive language in our writing.
First we will watch a video and discuss as a class possible language and language features that can be used when writing our story.
Later we will choose from a few of the ideas we came up to create our own short story.
