Wise vision, beliefs, mission statement

The vision of Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School is to develop a culture of mutual respect and academic excellence through rigorous instruction which produces college- and career-ready graduates.

Mission Statement

Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School will develop college- and career-ready students in a diverse learning community by fostering a culture of Pride, Respect, Involvement, Dependability and Excellence.

Beliefs/Commitments

1. All students will:

· Meet or exceed state-mandated exams

· Take college or career entry exams meeting or exceeding the national average

· Complete 4 math credits to meet the state of Maryland college-entry requirement

2. All students will achieve mastery in the following:

· Literacy

· Verbal expression

· Writing products and processes

· Research skills

· Mathematical practices

· Technology Skills

As measured by assessments and the Puma Portfolio

3. Upon receiving high quality standards-based instruction, all students will demonstrate mastery of their content’s goals and objectives.

4. All stakeholders will benefit from a supportive atmosphere that encourages active involvement and a sense of ownership for our school as measured by the following: increased service hours, parent engagement, attendance and participation in school-based activities.

5. A dependable learning community will be fostered by the following:

· Student-centered instruction

· Parent partnership
