Band Camp 2011 Updates
All students enrolled in Band are required to participate in the Marching Band. Marching Band is an extension of the band program. This program is designed to give the director and students a good starting point for learning and developing a deeper appreciation and understanding of marching band styles.
All students enrolled in band are required to participate in the Marching Band. However, students who are active members of the Varsity football team or varsity cheerleading team are exempt. This exemption is revoked when the student withdraws membership from the said team. The objectives of the Marching Band are as follows:
Students will be able to:
· Developing an appreciation and knowledge of marching styles.
· Developing skills and technique necessary to perform precision drill.
· Extending sight-reading and rhythm pattern reading skills.
· Understanding the musical terminology included in drill formation.
· Continued emphasis on good playing habits.
· Listening/watching professional recordings videotapes of military, corps, and University marching bands.
The dates for band camp are as follows:
Mon. Aug. 8 (4-6pm)Redskins workers Training session / ID Badge Full Band
Those who plan to participate are encouraged to attend this session. This is the only day you may obtain your badge and receive training.
Tues. Aug. 9 – Thurs. Aug. 11 4pm – 8pm Percussion Only
Tues. Aug 16 4pm-8pm Instrumentalist Only
6pm-8pm Full Band rehearsal

Because the band has three (baton, dancers, and flags) auxiliaries, each group, because of time constraints, may not be able to perform at each performance. This decision rest entirely upon the Band Director.
