PHILOSOPHY
The Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School Instrumental, Vocal and General Music Program of instruction provides all students with appropriate resources and experiences to develop positive attitudes and sensitivities toward music.
Through the implementation of sequential musical skills and concepts, students will develop an understanding of the intrinsic value of music and its relationship to diverse cultures, traditions, values and beliefs.
The program is also designed to foster enjoyment and appreciation of music beyond the limits of classroom instruction.
The program of instruction is based on the Maryland Music Curricula Framework, Maryland Indicators Project for Music Expectancies, and the Maryland State Department of Education Essential Learner Outcomes (Maryland State Arts Standards).
