Band Notes
Hello Band Parents,
The purpose of me writing you today is to keep you informed about band information.

The proposed Florida trip has been approved. Thank you for your patience. At this time, the following payments are due:

A copy of the itinerary, official permission form and medical is included with this newsletter. Thank you to those of you who attended the meeting and made payments at the beginning of the school. Currently, about 15-seats have come available for this trip. At the beginning of the school year, the opportunity was available for students to raise money for the Florida trip by participating in the Redskins fundraiser however, less than ten students and parents took advantage of that financial opportunity.

3. Instrument Damage / Basic Care
Parents, lately I have noticed a spike in instrument maintenance issues. Your child can avoid costly repairs if they would simply provide basic instrument care. Parents, you can help by doing the following:
· Purchase an instrument care kit for less than $20.00 and remind your child to use it every day.
· Purchase the appropriate instrument swab for your child’s instrument.
· Purchase an instrument stand and make your child use it in class. Several instruments have been damaged because they were left unattended on a music stand or left unattended standing next to a chair.
· Visit the following website for basic daily instrument care: http://www.musiccenters.com/care.html
·
4. Prince George’s County Band Assessment Festival
· The Prince George’s County Band Assessment Festival will take place next month at Northwestern High School. All Band students are required to participate. Participation is worth 3000 performance points. Students, please be mindful that band is a class and not an extra curricula activity. Therefore, the Prince George County attendance policy (Administrative procedure 5113) will apply. Parents, please ensure that your child understands that this is a graded event. Transportation will be provided, at no cost, from Wise to Northwestern. Permission forms will be available in a few weeks.
