Scales of Production

Trackable Laptop Case - Student Store

Scale of Production

Batch production - the Company WaterField, which also produces high-quality bags and cases, some with technological elements, uses this same kind of production to crease demand, and then sells in limited quantities

Manufacturing Techniques

Cut three layers of parts, stitch them all together, light gluing on weaker seams, sew the zipper on at the end

  • this allows the mechanized production to be divided into sections: cutting, glueing, and stitching

Production System

Mechanized Production - Similar bag and quality good canvas companies use mechanized production to produce goods efficiently and fast enough for the batch, i.e. Hardgraft

Mini Nok Hockey Table - Doctor's Office

Scale of Production

One-off (single) production - There would be limited market for the product at first. in addition, the customizable nature of the table makes it difficult to produce in anything other than one-off or batch. There is not sufficient market for batch, so one-off is preferable. In conversations with office managers, specialty toys are all specifically made for that office.

Manufacturing Techniques

Cut pieces out of wood with a saw, glue the pieces with super glue, affix corners and boards with nails. This is the same technique used by the very successful (but not customizable) Carrom Nok Hockey Table.

Production System

Craft production (small scale) - A study by Ozelkan in 2007 shows that craft production is ideal for new games with limited and specialized markets, especially those with an inherent "crafty" feel.
