Monday:
Today in class we derived the formula for the area of a trapezoid.
- We went over the worksheet from Thursday
- We completed an activity where we created trapezoids on centimeter grid paper, and cut them out and manipulated them in order to come up with a method to solve the the area.
- Students realized that trapezoids can form triangles.
- We used the formula for the area of a triangle to come up with the area of our figures.
- We realized that the formula for the area of a trapezoid is: (b1 + b2)* h / 2
Homework:
- IXL: Section F.F.4: Smart Score 80+
- IXL Section F.F.5 & F.F.6 are due Friday
Tuesday:
Today in class we continued to work on the area of trapezoids.
- We went over practice problems, solving for the area of trapezoids.
- We worked independently, together as a class, and in small groups.
Homework:
- Worksheet 4.3: #4-20
- IXL- Sections F.F.5 & F.F.6, Due Friday (Smart Score 80+)
Wednesday:
Today we learned about compound figures
- We talked about how compound figures are figures that are composed of 2 or more polygons. We learned that to find the area of these, it easiest to find the area of the separate polygons they are composed of, then add those areas together.
- We worked on the lesson on Schoology for today.
Homework:
- Worksheet (extensions 4.3)- Compound Figures #1-7
- IXL, Sections F.F.5-F.F.6, Due Friday
Thursday:
Today we learned about how to create, find the side lengths and reviewed how to calculate the distance between two points on a coordinate grid.
- We worked on a few practice problems in small groups and with the class
- We had some time to begin the homework
Homework:
- Worksheet (also available on Schoology) on the lesson. #3-23
- IXL F.F.5 & F.F.6 Due tomorrow
Friday:
Today we had time to work independently on IXL/Prodigy
- We worked on getting a Smart Score of 80+ on F.F.5 & F.F.6
- Students who finished early, worked on Prodigy
- Other students worked with Mrs. Segal to ask questions and work through some skills together.
Homework:
- Begin Reviewing for the 2-Dimensional Geometry Unit
- Review/Study the Formulas for Area of a Rectangle, Area of a Parallelogram, Area of a Triangle, Area of a Trapezoid.
- The test begins Thursday 4/27
