I. SKIT PERFORMANCE

From your exploration of politeness expressions in Vietnamese, work in groups of three to create a short skit in Vietnamese to illustrate differences between Northern and Southern politeness expressions in communication. Your skit should have the following elements:

• CONTENT:
  • can be about miscommunications that take place due to cultural differences
  • can be a northern version and southern version of the same scene
• STRUCTURE:
  • has at least 2 characters and 1 narrator
  • is about 5-10 minutes long
• MEDIA:
  • can involve props, music, sound effects
  • must be videotaped to be posted on YouTube for sharing publicly
• LANGUAGE:
  • is in the appropriate Vietnamese dialect being illustrated

You will act out your skit live in class. Ask another classmate to videotape your skit. Then, you will post your skit on YouTube and share the link with your class for comments.

Your skit and video will be evaluated using this rubric.
