Research papers are written after one has performed many experiments and written many lab reports. The Research Paper consists of the following four subtopics:

    1. Introduction

      • Expository styles: Description and/or Problem & Solution

      • Includes background information about the topic or problem

      • Includes your working hypothesis (your assumed explanation for what you think is happening)

    2. Methods

      • Expository style: Sequence

      • Includes what you used

      • Includes how and in what sequence you did your experiment

      • Includes how you did your calculations (equations listed)

    3. Results

      • Expository style: Cause and Effect

      • Use your data to state what your results were.

    4. Discussion

      • Expository styles: Comparison and/or Problem & Solution

      • Includes comparing how well your hypothesis agrees with your data

      • Includes how well your results agree with any others who have done similar work

      • Includes any modified working hypotheses for future experiments
