Project 10

Project: Determining the Molar Heat Capacity of a Metal

Project Helps:

Goal:

  • Design an experiment to measure molar heat capacities of zinc, iron or copper. You can pick either one, but just do one.

Rules:

  1. This project is done individually.

  2. You do NOT have to do the experiment, only come up with a written design for doing the experiment!

  3. There is no length requirement for the paper.

What needs to be done?

  1. Read page 341 and Figure 4 and use it as a guide to doing this experiment.

  2. Write a paper formatted like a lab, but only having an introduction and a methods section (See Sample Paper Format).

  3. The paper will include:

    • A title of this paper (summarizing your project in one short phrase)

    • Your name

    • An introduction

      • Stating the purpose of the experiment and what you want to find out.

    • A methods section

      • Explaining how you plan to do the experiment.

  4. Submit this paper in hard copy or share it electronically with your instructor.
