Research clusters: pioneer.case.edu
Coursework cluster: markov.case.edu
Computationally intensive research is supported through the operation of High Performance Computing (HPC) resources at CWRU. Services include provisioning user access to our computational resources, assistance in optimizing use through training and direct support, and providing answers to questions regarding daily HPC activities. HPC services are offered by the [U]Tech's Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure (RCCI) group. Please let us know if you need assistance in pre-award activities related to budgeting and how we can help further your research goals.
Access to the cluster is restricted, and available from the campus network or through VPN (vpnsetup.case.edu), if connecting from outside campus.
If you have utilized the HPC resources for your publications, please acknowledge HPC in your HPC-Assisted research works as showed:
"This work made use of the High Performance Computing Resource in the Core Facility for Advanced Research Computing at Case Western Reserve University."
The best place to start is our general Quickstart.
For faculty members, you can find additional information about setting up your account and membership at the Faculty Guide page.
For staff or students, you can find additional information under the User Guide page.
Use keyword search at the top of the page (the lens button) for more specific use case.
Check the HPC Cluster section for various topics on the HPC: from accessing the cluster with graphical interface to scheduling your jobs.
We have Guides and Training to help you be more proficient in using the cluster and HPC resources provided by other organizations, particularly NSF.
Please explore the site to learn how to find the software you need, learn about the Module System, and Job Submission.
If you cannot find the information that you need, you can email us at hpc-supportATcase.edu
To log into the research-focused Pioneer cluster, or the Markov cluster for course work, use either OnDemand, X2Go, or Terminals to access pioneer.case.edu or markov.case.edu using your CaseID and SSO password (sometimes with Duo authentication as well)
250+ compute servers, including 60+ GPU nodes, and 7000+ processors.
Check the details of the cluster nodes on the Resource View page
Provisioned by xCAT, with the operating system running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9
Job scheduler: Slurm
Compilers: Gnu, Intel, and PGI
Apps: Matlab, Mathematica, NAMD, Gromacs, Gaussian, LAMMPS, Schrodinger, Ansys and more.
Visit the HPC's AMARA account management site via any browser with Single Sign On + Duo authentication (no VPN required) to 'apply for', or to manage a research group account. The website is only accessible to a faculty PI that wants to apply. Existing users can access the portal to manage an account or check their resources. You can get the overview of the various HPC/RCCI services, resources, information and price structure via our billing tool, iLAB.
Instructors, please use this form to help start the process of requesting cyberinfrastructure for class related work.
