Red Death Movie Poster

For our next Applied Tech step, I want you to learn about Pixlr and create a Movie Poster for “The Masque of the Red Death.”

Things I want you to know when you’re done:

Photoshop Tutorial (5min)

I also want you to learn how to use tutorials.  Check these out:

For your Movie Poster I want you to at least learn how to use Pixlr to the point where you can combine parts of multiple images and put text on top of them.  If you’ve taken Digital Imaging I want you to know about Pixlr, web tutorials and Freeware.

Poe Video Poem

For this assignment, I want to extend your capabilities with the filmmaking aspect of this class. Hopefully you can use this assignment to think about important parts of the film making process: how to tell a story and/or convey a message using images, how to sequence purposeful shots, how to use audio (music & voice over) and text.

What you should know by the end

§ How to gather footage from YouTube and the Web

§ How to handle the cameras and tripods?

§ How to import into iMovie

§ How to arrange clips

§ How to trim clips

§ Titles

§ Transitions

§ Effects

§ How to adjust audio

The order in which you should work:

• Decide with whom you’re going to work

• Find the text you want to adapt

• Kick around ideas (consider shots, locations & how to interpret the poem)

• Create storyboards/shot lists—show Pfouts plans before getting footage

• Start filming—take more than you think you need

• Import, Order and Edit

Things to keep in mind after our observations:

    • You should be building your knowledge base

o Compose your shots deliberately (Rule of Thirds)

o Vary your shots and strive for effective sequencing—consider what you’ve started to observe when you watch anything

o Get better at the software

    o Develop your editing skills/speed

    • You may adapt/interpret things to keep it in the realm of possibility—i.e. locations, actors etc.

    • Your goal is to offer a deeper understanding of your text through your video.
