Assignments and Handouts

One Hour Shootout

I want you to do another smaller video project.  For this one, you will practice filming dialogue.  You need to choose a scene from And Then There Were None. I will suggest some scenes but feel free to do a favorite of your own.

I will choose groups and you will have the entire class period to film your scene.  We’ll use the iPads to film and edit.

Watch this YouTube video about filming dialogue:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEWx6zbUDrc

Look through the book and choose a dialogue heavy scene—without going past the bookmark.

Steps to follow:

Shoot for having at least 15 Shots

This is meant to be a fun way to discuss the book, get better at filming dialogue and working with a deadline.

Preview and Activity for "The Man from the Sea"

For this story, I want to get you ready for the short story project that is up next for us.  Think of activity options I offered for the "The Case of the Rich Woman" (see the file below).  For "The Man from the Sea," you need to create both a preview and activity.

For the preview, don't give too much away.  For the activity, make it fit the story.  After that, you to do the activity.

For our short story project, you're going to get a story, write a preview and create activities for other people to complete.  Here's an example of a similar project from a different class.

For now, we'll practice creating previews and activities for "The Man from the Sea." Below you'll find a sample activity—follow its format.

Sample Activity and Preview:

“The Tell-Tale Heart”

Description: One of Poe’s best known stories.  An old man’s evil eye taunts an unnamed narrator.  When the old man disappears, the police show up.

Activity: Make connections to William Wilson and the theme of the human conscience.  Do a short write up.

For "A Strange Jest"

For this story, visualize a scene or two and create a storyboard for your vision.
