Equipment
For federal grant programs (and many non-federal programs), equipment is defined as an item of nonexpendable, tangible property that has a useful life of more than one year and an acquisition cost that is equal to or greater than $5,000. All research equipment costing $5,000 or more and all general-purpose equipment (i.e., equipment that can be readily used other than for research) costing $5,000 or more should be itemized in detail in the proposal and in the approved grant or contract.
If a major equipment purchase will be made with grant funds, it is important to make sure that the purchases are completed in accordance with ACC Fiscal Policy and Purchasing Guidelines.
When planning the timeline for implementation of the project, be sure to leave an appropriate amount of time to complete the bidding and purchasing process, the sole-source justification, approval, and/or the acquisition process. All purchased items must be delivered and paid by the grant end-date and/or end of the college's fiscal year.
