Fringe Benefits

Whenever grant funds are used to pay salaries and wages, associated fringe benefits must also be charged to the grant.

Budgeting for Fringe Benefits

• All grant personnel, whether current or new, full, part‐time or hourly, must have benefits calculated to cover such things as FICA, retirement match, and medical/dental, if applicable.
• Each current full-time/part-time employee has a unique fringe benefit rate and percentage.
• Personnel working less than 75% effort are considered part-time.
• Check with HR to determine correct benefit rate.

NOTE: Fringe benefits should not be calculated for consultants and others providing services on a contractual basis.
