Remove the Gyro! - Custom Collimator Gunsights
lot of people dislike the gyro in War Thunder because it's inaccurate, unreliable and mostly pointless unless the aircraft has a true lead indicating function (Mitsubishi T-2, F-1) or some sort of CCIP (F-4C, F-4E, Mitsubishi F-1, MiG-21MF, MiG-21SMT, MiG-21Bis, Jaguar etc.)
The way to do this without encountering the tessellation/repeating gunsight bug, is to substitute the default gunsight, with another default gunsight without referencing new files; That is to say, you do not need any texture/image files.
Replacing gunsights is actually fairly easy, you only need two to five things: The name of the aircraft, the name of the static default gunsight, the dynamic default gunsight, the replacement static and dynamic sights respectively.
___
1. The first problem can be resolved fairly easily by navigating to your aircraft, click Customization (the button you use to edit your decals and camouflages).
Create a new user skin by clicking the magic wand button.
2. Navigate to your [installation folder]/War Thunder/UserSkins/ and find the respective name that matches your aircraft closest.
Open the blk file, delete the other images that was created because you don't need them, unless you plan on using an unlockable in-game skin with that aircraft.
3. Open the .BLK file with notepad, remove everything below name:t="user" (unless you want to use that unlockable skin, in which case you leave the other lines as they are) and copy/paste the following:
replace_tex{
from:t="oldStatic*"
to:t="newStatic*"
}
replace_tex{
from:t="oldDynamic*"
to:t="newDynamic*"
}
4. From the following sight images, find which sights are your gyro and static sights, and choose your replacement sights (You can get these names from the CDK in case it isn't listed here). These images are 570L3N from KurtDizon_1104's Discord server. You may need to do a bit of guesswork.
Once you have found your respective sight images, go to your BLK file again and replace oldStatic with the old static etc. skins respectively. Make sure to leave the asterisk (*) there after the name.
Don't forget to save, and load the "skin" and you're done!
It should look something like this:
==GUNSIGHT LIST==
_empty_collimator
replace_tex{
from:t="csf_92a_gyro_collimator*"
to:t="beauduin_t100_fixed_collimator*"
}
replace_tex{

to:t="aim_1_collimator*"
}
