The sixth annual PSA-BISA Teaching & Learning Conference will be hosted by the University of Westminster on 9th-10th September 2013.

The conference theme this year is Teaching and Learning Politics and International Relations in the UK and Beyond: Challenges, Opportunities, Innovation

Conference keynotes will be:

  • Denise Scheberle – (University of Colorado-Denver’s School of Public Affairs) and the 2012 recipient of the American Political Science Association’s inaugural national Distinguished Teaching Award.
  • Heidi Maurer is Assistant Professor at Maastricht University
  • Mike Sharples is Professor of Educational Technology in the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University, UK.

This Director for this year’s conference is Dr Frands Pedersen, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Westminster. If you missed the deadline for submitting a paper, please contact Frands [PSABISALT@westminster.ac.uk] directly as he may be able to include you as he constructs the panels and programme.

Congratulations are due to Dr Simon Lightfoot who has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in the latest round of awards. Simon is a Senior Lecturer in European Politics at University of Leeds and Director of Student Education for the Politics and International Studies. In 2009 he won the Political Studies Association's Bernard Crick Prize for Outstanding Teaching and was also co-director and host for the PSA-BISA Teaching and Learning conference that year. Teaching Politics and International Relations which Simon co-edited with Cathy Gormley-Heenan, was published by Palgrave last year. With Heidi Maurer (Maastricht) he has recently co-edited an issue of European Political Science on "Teaching European Studies: old and new tools for student engagement". It has been published online with European Political Science (see http://www.palgrave-journals.com/eps/index.html).
