GIPSE-Web (formerly AMDS) Use Case

Overall Description: GIPSE-Web (formerly AMDS-Web) is a simple, web-enabled user interface (UI) that will public health professionals to select biosurveillance services that adhere to the AMDS. The data elements that will be made available through this service are as follows:

Date Start and End (minimum period is a single day)

Patient Demographic Area (State, Zip-3, or Zip-5)

Syndrome

Syndrome Classifier (e.g.BioSense, EARS, RODS, ESSENCE, etc.)

Denominator (i.e. total count of all syndromes for that geographic area on that date)

Users will be able to build their own meta-query by date, patient demographic area, syndrome classifer, abberation detection method, and syndrome. Once the selection criteria for the meta-query has been chosen, AMDS-Web will return available grid-enabled services (i.e. instances of RODS, ESSENCE, BioSense, etc.) supplying aggregate count data. The user can then select which one of these services they would like to visualize the aggregate data in the form of a map or time series as syndrome counts according to the selected patient demographic area. The following use cases describe in detail how the query builder, services selection tool, and visualization components work together through the AMDS-Web UI.
