In 1911 Lewis Shorter, a 13-year-old schoolboy, lived in five rooms at 50 Garfield Road, Battersea, with his parents, Thomas Shorter, 61, an insurance clerk from Windlesham, Surrey, and Sarah Shorter, 49, from Tillingham, Essex. He was one of two children. He was born in Battersea.

Medal roll

Shorter's medal roll card gives his mother's address as Garfield Road. This is deleted and her new address is given: 6 Ashburton Avenue, Shirley Road, Addiscombe, Croydon.
