In 1911, Laurence Tomes, a 20-year-old barman, was working at the The Earl Spencer pub, 37 Battersea Bridge Road, London. His mother, brother Edwin and sister Christina, were living at 26 Gladstone Terrace, Battersea. Edwin Tomes is also remembered on the Holy Trinity memorial.
