In 1911 Arthur Raymond Campbell was living in three rooms at 24 Hoyle Road, Tooting with his widowed mother, Sarah Campbell, 45, who was born in Oxford, and his two siblings Henry Campbell, 20, a tailor's general assistant, born in Newington, and Rose Campbell, 14, born in Bermondsey. Arthur, then 17, was a bookseller's assistant. The census states that he was born in Newington, near the Elephant and Castle.
