HIND, H.V., Corporal, 23rd London Regiment.

Volunteering in August 1914, he was sent to the Western Front in January 1916, and during his service in France, fought at Vimy Ridge and on the Somme. He was killed in the heavy fighting at High Wood on September 16th, 1916, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

During the war, this lady volunteered her services and was engaged for over two years at the Army Clothing Department at Pimlico. She did good work in the clerical office from October 1917 until January 1920, and carried out her duties in a commendable manner.

HIND, S. J. Private, 23rd London Regiment

Volunteering in August 1914, he was drafted to the Western Front in January 1916. During his service in France he fought at Albert, Vimy Ridge, High Wood and on the Somme, and was then invalided home owing to heart trouble. He received medical treatment for about six months, and on recovery served in the Clerical Department of the Record Office at London Wall until his demobilisation in June 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

In 1911 Harry Victor Hind, then a 20-year-old library assistant, was living with his family at 7 The Polygon, Clapham. He was one of nine children of George Hind, 49, a house painter from Portsmouth, and Louisa Hind, 46, also from Portsmouth. The children on the return are

Two other children, George F.N. Hind, 27, and Nellie Hind, 25, are on the 1901 census, and Dorothy Hind, 24, is on the 1891 census. All were born in Portsmouth.
