The First Fall Storm

Weather reports are calling for rain and snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra for the next few days.
And so fall begins.
It's a great time of the year to visit the mountains, as there are fewer people, and the trails are still just as beautiful as ever. True, the flowers are now dying out, but so are the mosquitoes.
There is something very cozy about hiking and camping in September and October. The days are shorter, and the campsites seem somehow more welcoming.
But if you can't get into the mountains, at least you can take a few minutes to re-live the adventures of this summer. Check out these photos from the trails we hiked in 2011.

At right is trail up into the Mono Creek area above Lake Thomas Edison, and below is a trail to Post Peak Pass in Southern Yosemite.
Below right is the trail past Elizabeth Lake towards Nelson Lake in the high country above Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite.
And below is the trail after a snowstorm on the way to the Beehive near Hetch-hetchy in June.
