Get your permit today!

Our last post was about some proposed changes to wilderness permits along the John Muir Trail, but there is one permit you should get today. You'll need it to backpack in any of the national forests, and it's free.

In fact, you can get it on-line.

CAL-Fire/CDF offers a free campfire permit on their website: you can go here http://www.preventwildfireca.org/Permits/ and get yours.

In years past, P used to ride his bike over to the local CDF fire station and pick up a permit every January. But the last couple of times he did it, it was pretty clear that he knew more about the permit and the process than the guys at the station did. Eventually, they'd find the booklet and get him a permit.

But now it's all on-line, so there is no need to bother the firefighters...and it allows you to operate a backpacking stove anywhere in the national forests in California, plus a few other things as well.

Now back to those maps to decide where we are going to camp...
