On a happier note

The roads are opening up in the Sierra. Glacier Point Road in Yosemite opens today, and Sonora Pass Road up to Kennedy Meadows is also open. That's great news for those of us who like to get out into the mountains.

But please bear in mind that these roads are recently plowed---meaning they will have 3-6 feet of snow on the side in places. And the trails that head out from the ends of these roads are likely to have snow on them as well. If you do go high in the next couple of weeks, be prepared to encounter trails obliterated by the snow...and make sure you know where you are going and how to get back.
