“Reflecting on my goals for the semester”
My biggest goal for the semester was to practice using different mediums. At the start, I was already very comfortable using colored pencils and mostly comfortable with acrylics. I was, although, not as familiar with watercolor and all ink pieces. During the semester, I learned a lot about watercolor and how to use different techniques to get the desired effect I wanted. By doing my watercolor landscape, I now have a good understanding of what to do with watercolor and have translated that in my own work at home already.
I also learned how to use pen ink when making drawings. The inktober assignments and imaginative self portrait helped me further my skill. Now, it is one of my favorite supplies to doodle and draw with now that I really know different ways to use it.
Overall, I think that I did achieve my goal(s) because I am now more comfortable and confident with a wider range of mediums.
“Assignment that I am the most proud of”
It is very difficult for me to choose just one assignment that I am the most proud of. I have narrowed it down to my self portrait and imaginative self portrait. What I like about my self portrait is how much I learned. I love to draw faces and by practicing so many times on my own face, it has given me a better understanding of how to draw faces in general. It was also helpful because I have always wanted to draw people in real life and not just from a reference.
Although I am very proud of my self portrait, I would have to say I am proudest of my imaginative self portrait more for many different reasons. I do like the technicality and learning aspects of my portrait but what I love more is the imaginative portion of the piece. I love how much I thought about what to include, the perspective I chose, and how it embodies the things I enjoy most. I think this is definitely a biased opinion as it does include the things I love like the ocean and my favorite constellations, but I also think that is why I am most proud of it. Just looking at the piece makes me happy and seeing all the things I added that represented my loved ones. During this piece, I did learn a valuable skill of how to combine my ideas into one cohesive piece which I use now in my own recreative drawings. My imaginative self portrait drawing is the assignment I am most proud of because of the way I combined the things I love.
Goals for the Semester:
Art comes from many different points of inspiration. For me, I like to look at colors. Colors have such different inspirations that you can take from them. You can see a color and feel an emotion, think of an object or item, among a lot of other fun and creative things. I also really love using a wide variety of colors in my art which is also why I think it is one of my biggest inspirations.
During this semester, I hope to improve on basically everything. My two most favorite types of art are drawing and painting and I do it a lot because it’s something I really enjoy. If I would have to narrow it down to one thing, I would choose how to use different mediums. I typically use pencils, colored pencils, and acrylics. Outside of that, I am not too sure on how to manipulate and use other mediums which is something I hope to learn.
