"Open." 16x16 inches
Project Challenge:
Through investigation of an abstract painter and their work, become familiar with how and why some artists create abstract paintings. Create both a presentation on the artist and an abstract painting that demonstrates a connection to the work of your chosen artist and two concepts from your recent matrix map.
My painting features mainly primary-ish colors of yellow, teal, and red-orange. There is a teal rectangle with yellow and red-orange blended into the teal and a red-orange triangle to the left. There is also a black squiggle on top of the triangle that slightly goes into the rectangle. The background is yellow on the top and off-white on the bottom. I used acrylic paint on my 16 by 16 inch canvas and mainly used a pallet knife for the background and paintbrushes for the rest. I was inspired by the changing of seasons and how as the weather becomes warmer, I let more fresh air into my room. I hope to evoke a sort of fresh and airy feeling when looking at my painting even though that sounds strange. A relieving feeling may be a better word choice. My main goal was to just create an abstract piece that I enjoyed creating and was proud of and I think I did achieve that goal because it was fun to paint and I am happy with how it turned out. I learned that I am a fan of creating abstract paintings which I did not know. I also rekindled my love of primary color schemes. The final piece is actually what I had imagined it to look like which I believe is a good thing. I think this piece will encourage me to go more outside of my comfort zone in the future.
