Reflections on Work
I think that artists create a dynamic observational drawing by focusing on value and lines. Value, I think, is the most important part as it aids in creating the most effective and convincing piece. As for style, I think it comes with the line variation. A more messy versus neat line style could create a cohesive collection for one artist and contribute to making one specific style.
The first drawing I did was the teapot with the bugs. I made the teapot center on the gray page with two bugs, one on the top and one on the bottom. I thought the idea of the bugs was fun and had a nice contrast with the shiny pot. I think if I were to improve something I might make some shadows lighter and darker. The second drawing I made was the glass bottle with smoke. I chose the smoke because I was using a black paper and thought the smoke might resemble the materials I was using. I would definitely change how I drew the glass because I found it difficult and might have taken the process a little slower.
Some successes that I found in my drawings were my values and proportions. I spent a lot of time making sure I had convincing shapes to make a nice looking still life. I also chose contrasting papers and materials to emphasize the difference in values and contrast.
