How can I show the lesson my grandparent’s relationship has taught me about love through subject matter and portraiture?

Reflection on Work:
My main idea revolved around my grandparent’s relationship and what that has taught me about love and fulfilling/effective relationships. I decided to paint a portrait of my grandmother in front of the moon to show how, in my grandfather’s eyes, my grandmother is his moon (being the brightest in the sky). I am most comfortable with acrylics in regard to portraits, but I also decided to use acrylics because of the moon/sky. I thought acrylics would be best when blending out the moon into the sky and I also thought the stars wouldn’t be too complicated using acrylic paint. Also, this piece took a lot of layering which works really well with acrylics.
I have learned through this piece to have more trust in myself and my own creative process. My grandmother’s face went through many stages and I’m happy where it ended. I was worried when I first began because it didn’t look how I expected, but all of my steps were necessary to get to the finished product. I am unsure what my next piece will be but I have a few ideas on who I can base on. I think I will start the same process I did with this piece and pick my person and dump everything I can think about them on paper. This worked well in coming up with a good idea I was excited about so I hope it will work again.
